Welcome

"Happiness lies not in finding what is missing, but in finding what is present." - Tara Brach, Ph.D.

Many people enter therapy to "fix" something: themselves, their relationships, or their families. I do not believe in fixing people or relationships. Instead, I work alongside you to find the strengths, healing, and hope that are already within you.

Entering a therapeutic relationship is an act of courage, whether you join me as an individual, a relationship, or a family. If you feel alone in your struggles, you may find solace by inviting someone to walk alongside you. Whether or not today is the day you choose to reach out, I applaud you for your curiosity and action to investigate what counseling could look like.

My name is Caitlin "Caity" Lynch, MS, NCC, Marriage & Family Therapist intern (pronouns she/her and they/them).

I'm a queer, neurodivergent person trained in relational and systemic approaches to mental wellness. I'm deeply committed to divestment from white supremacy, capitalism, ableism, nationalism, xenophobia, fatphobia, and all other forms of oppression. Many of these oppressive forces have been historically replicated in mental healthcare. As a result, Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color, Gender and Sexual Minorities, Disabled people, and many folks with historically marginalized identities and their intersections have been negatively impacted by counseling. In my work, I aim to make the so-called "invisible" forces of oppression visible, name structures of power, and work from a strengths-based approach. I want you to find the healing, peace, and empowerment you long for in your life and relationships. And I'm convinced counseling can give you the tools you need to attain that.

Relationship (Couples) Therapy

In relational work with couples, triads, polycules, and other relationship structures, we'll get curious about how your attachment styles (the way you relate to significant people) impact your relationships. We'll discover which relational patterns aren't working for you and strengthen the ones that are. I will use Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT, Johnson) to guide our sessions. I have completed an EFCT Externship, Core Skills, and ongoing supervision through the Portland Center for EFT to deepen my knowledge and application of EFCT in relational work.

In relational work, we may:

  • Examine the impact of systems of oppression ("isms") in your relationship/your family, such as ableism, compulsory neurotypical communication, racism, heteronormativity, transnegativity, ageism

  • Address experiences of relational ruptures, such as infidelity or conflict

  • Explore new relational structures

  • Discuss sexual desire discrepancies, how to improve your sex life, or integrating new sexual practices or people into your relationship

  • Compassionately and honestly discuss changes in your relationship due to changes in your sexual, gender, or any other identities

  • Help your family find balance and homeostasis after big changes or loss

  • Give your relationship(s) the tools, perspective, and habits they need to be successful

Individual Therapy

I use evidence-based interventions drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, among others, as well as my clients' lived experiences and inner wisdom. Each client has unique strengths and goals and I help you meet yours by listening to what you need from our therapeutic relationship.

In our individual work together, we may:

  • Create space for new possibilities in your life

  • Examine the impact of internalized "isms" (oppression) in your life

  • Address trauma with compassion and tenderness for all parts of the self

  • Use evidence-based practices to gain healthier habits and a thriving internal life

  • Increase Autistic and ADHD executive functioning skills and life satisfaction from a neurodivergent-positive lens

  • Explore gender and sexual identity, including WPATH SOC 7 Gender-Affirming Medical Care support letters

Ways to Move Forward

How do we travel the path to healing?

In individual work, we may focus on short-term goals such as gaining clarity of values and processing changes or longer-term work that addresses trauma or persistent mental health concerns.

In relationship work, I am directive, working as a coach and therapist to note strengths, shared goals, and underlying emotional significance of your behaviors, and helping you create new, healthier patterns to support your relationship.

I offer a free, 20-minute video consultation call to all potential clients so you can see if me and my therapy style feel like the right fit. If it isn't what you're looking for, I'm happy to offer you culturally relevant psychotherapy referrals.
